Agricultural Update
We're having moderately warm weather, perfect for the garden. I'm picking about 5 pounds of tomatoes every 3 days. I really am happy with determinate tomatoes, they're NOT ripening all at once, but in an orderly, manageable way. I'll have tomatoes ripening for months, with the two plantings, not to mention the one brandywine plant in the south bed.
I'm canning tomatoes, and will can some snap beans as well. The pole beans are coming up, and all the new squash in the south bed is growing like crazy. I'm doing the best I can to keep up with everything.
Birds have pecked a few tomatoes and I'm seeing magpies feeding on the almonds. I'm glad that some have survived the west nile virus, and I'm not begrudging them food.
The avocado tree is putting out some new leaves. I wish I had shaded it properly a few months ago, because I have finally solved the leaf drop issue, but then I let it get badly sun-burned. One step forward and one step back.
