(no subject)

I remember a time when strangers who really needed help could get it, but now, the grifters and scamsters we all run into have poisoned the waters, and made our society cold and heartless.

A young woman stopped me in a parking lot, and told me the saddest story about her mother dying of multiple sclerosis recently, and how she's struggling to take care of her sister, and she's is working 3 jobs, but they just got evicted from their motel room and none of the social service agencies or churches will help them.

I gave her $10, just in case this horrible situation is real. I've decided that it's about 60/40 that the story is phony, but she pushed the right buttons with me.

amen!

I always give an extra two or three dollars to those who I see standing on the side of the word with cardboard signs that say 'will work for food' (and whatnot). I mean, yes they could just turn around and spend that money given to them for alcohol; but they always may really be suffering and sincerely need whatever has been given to them to survive. I think its better just to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Either way, whether they were fakers or not, you get some good karma flying your way...

For me, giving away $10 on the street is an exception to the rule. I used to be more like you, but I've become suspicious and cynical in these modern times.
