Tragedy Has Brought Me Cats

Since the neighboring cat lady died in April of natural causes, there has been a suicide, and now, a murder over there. Her husband is in custody. I have at least two of her feral cats, and another neighbor has some as well.

The cats are usually waiting for their supper at sundown, and seem happy to see me, but still keep their distance.

The hunting dogs walked along with us for most of the morning walk, and Halo enjoys their company. Halo doesn't seem to want another dog in the household, however, and seems to get enough interaction with other dogs to keep him happy. He likes being my only dog, and hanging out in the front yard during the day. I bought him a nice dog house, and put it on the covered porch, so while I'm working he can stay warm and dry.

I'm going to also cut a opening in the shed where I feed the cats, to allow them to shelter there this winter.

You're a good person.

I've always liked cats, and all three have shown up today. The two from the south followed me into the shed at suppertime, more trusting than ever. The calico cat has suddenly returned, very hungry, and I fed her twice.

I actually petted the orange cat today. That proves they're not feral. I acted non-threatening for a month or so, and he finally decided he wanted his head scratched. The black-and-white one is probably a sibling, and will follow suit.
