It's time for a vacation
Aug. 15th, 2001 08:46 pmI'm flying down to San Diego on the 24th, and diving of the Mexican coast, at a place called Islas Los Coronados. I booked everything on line but the airline reservations were difficult. Some sites wanted me to commit without being specific about the flight times. Other gave me ridiculous choices, like leaving at 6AM on Friday and flying back at 1 AM Sunday, with a stopover in LA or Las Vegas. I finally found a direct United Flight through Expedia.com with reasonable times. But this is the kicker, they've set it so I take a shuttle bus from SJC to SFO! Then I fly from SFO to San Diego. If I wanted a ticket directly from SFO to San Diego it's $100 more. Well I live closer to SFO, and the damn bus ticket goes in the garbage right away. I'll drive myself to the airport.
One of my part-time technicians is undergoing his yearly review at Compaq, and he wanted me to write his self review for him. Compaq is closing his division and moving to Texas next month, but he wanted me to write him good one, anyway. He gave me his buddy's review as a guide, it's full of technical jargon "I take physical inventories daily and use Business Objects to insure the integrity of components for each work order. , and inform the shop floor of any changes necessary on SFDM or CO28." He's Vietnamese, and his English is terrible, so he completely left it to me. He wouldn't give me any specifics, "Just make me look very good" I gave him aspirations to management and field engineering.
