Dispatches From The Hinterland
Apr. 5th, 2013 08:36 amHuge masses of sticker bushes are rocketing up all along the route that we walk everyday. I've been carrying a spray bottle of Roundup with me, and blazing a trail through what soon will be spiky hedges.
My new hiking boots look like hobo shoes. They seemed OK when I bought them, but they soak up water, so now the thread that binds the uppers has fallen apart. The heels are honeycomb rubber that is wearing thin and collapsing. More of that that made-in-China crap, where every corner is cut, and the shoddiest material is used to maximize the profits for billionaire Army generals.
