Fall Garden Update
Sep. 29th, 2013 07:31 pmI picked four nice yellow squash, and tomorrow, I will pick another batch of peppers, and then harvest dry bush beans for next year's seed.
A hard-nosed farmer would now be done with the tomatoes and eggplant and yellow squash, but I'll keep picking what little there is into October.
I did well this year, but if I had tied up the tomatoes better I could have gotten higher yields, but I finally refined my technique with the last Brandywine tomato plant. I used three long steel sections of rebar, surrounding the plant, and wound umpteen coils of string around it to support the branches of tomatoes.
It was fine, in retrospect, to plant the yellow squash late. The last two Butternut squash plants, that I also planted late, are maturing, but didn't have the time to grow big. The Butternuts that I planted earlier are easily four times their size.
On the medical front, I got pieces of an unknown something in my one good eye, and was worried about it. Yesterday, I irrigated it with saline solution, and put in some over-the-counter pain cream, and this morning, I woke up feeling much better. I'm also wearing eye protection now if I'm working with power tools.
