Two Plantings Removed
Sep. 5th, 2012 01:58 pmI've noticed aerial spraying over nearby pumpkin fields, and now my yellow squash and watermelon plants have been quickly overrun by brownish aphids. I tried my organic neem oil, but it didn't help. I just did the radical thing and removed both plantings. The squash plants have already yielded well, and the watermelon were not fruiting, anyway.
I'll watch the butternut squash, but at this point, they look fine. I found two dead rats as I pulled out the squash plants.

I was reading the internet about squash, curious why one variety had aphids and not the other, and found out that the yellow crookneck is really a pumpkin, and the butternut is a true squash. It's no wonder the yellow "squash" picked up the same aphids that are be-deviling pumpkins.
