Counting Votes Fast Is What's Important.
Feb. 5th, 2008 02:34 pmThis morning, I was surprised to see that the paper ballots and optical reader at my precinct had been replaced with electronic voting machines. I asked about the change and was told that it made counting ballots faster. No one knew exactly why counting the votes faster was so important, however. Maybe for the media, so the news could project winners before the polls were closed. No one at the precinct had heard about that new Princeton study that detailed how easy it was to rig elections with electronic voting machines. These machines were certified last year, they assured me.
