A big buck is dead in the road, and I'm enough of a redneck to think about picking it up. I saw it this morning, and it's still there now. I'm surprised that the buzzards haven't found it yet; they made short work of one right there a year ago.
It's illegal to pick up road killand to have a dead deer without a tag, and I have never field dressed a deer, much less butchered one. I don't even have a good sharp knife for something like that. My girlfriend was with me, and she wasn't horrified by the idea, but she would probably be shocked to see how bloody and messy gutting and cutting up a deer would be.
Editors note: Last night, our hero passed a small herd of deer bunched up at the side of the road. Luckily, he saw them ahead, moving in the darkness, and slowed down. With all the deer around, is it any wonder that mountain lion sightings are becoming almost commonplace?
