Performance Anxiety
Jan. 16th, 2010 08:10 amI'm back from my trip, and my timing was good because now the weather gurus are warning of things to come. The roads were clear, but I had one little moment when I was passing a big rig near the summit. I was in 5th gear, climbing at about 60mph when my truck started losing power. I had to downshift to re-gain power and pass the semi. My brother said it was the altitude (7000 ft) that was to blame.
I guess he's right, I remember years ago, driving a 4 cyl Ford Pinto across the Rockies, and thinking the engine was damaged. Later, when I got down to a normal altitude the car ran fine.
We did go into a couple of casinos but I didn't do any drinking or gambling.
In other important news:
I've almost finished with the lemons that I picked in early December, right before the cold snap. There are now plenty more ready on the tree. At some point I'll pick all the fruit and then prune the tree. I still have 5 other big-ass trees to prune in the near future. My brother tells me you should time the pruning on any tree to be shortly before spring, that you don't want a huge lag between the cutting and the time for new growth. I'm in a warmer area, so these rules might not be as critical. He has a good sized apple tree in the back yard, and I've kept all my brewing equipment, so next fall could be cider-licious.
