July Harvest
Jul. 2nd, 2010 09:59 pmI dehydrated and vacuum packed some summer squash today. I'll have to do some more tomorrow, to keep up with the volume that's coming ripe. I'm not exactly sure that I did everything right, but it's packed in a clear bag, so I can watch for mold or whatever. Six tomatoes are almost ready to pick, and I'm expecting a huge crop of them as well.
I'm eating a big salad every day, and usually it's arugula. I have more arugula than other types of lettuce, perhaps because when the lettuce first began the bugs preferred the other varieties. I don't like arugula so much either, so when I need to thin the row, I'll pull and eat it, to give the more valued types room to grow. Some of the arugula also started bolting during the heat wave, and I pulled the bolting ones up and replanted them to stress them and to stop the flowering, but it seems that only a few are surviving the shock. I still have plenty of lettuce and I'm going to start eating the better varieties now.
