I'm cooking almost exclusively from the garden now, and it's saving me time and money at the supermarket. I've actually put on weight from eating so many tomatoes. I'm down to eight mature lettuce plants, and it's getting harder to glean good leaves from them. In early September, they will be finished, but already I have more salad greens started. I didn't plant a huge amount this time, because actually, one salad a day is enough.
My girlfriend liked the Russian kale that I brought her, but she was smart enough to cook it. I hated it, because it was tough, and didn't go well into salads. I never considered cooking it, but she knew that it's a lot like spinach. I'm bringing her a couple eggplant, and some more squash this weekend.
I have hundreds of green tomatoes, on five plants, that are all still flowering, but only about 15 have been ripening a week.
