Three Fleeting Thoughts
May. 22nd, 2011 08:23 amA big snake is squashed on the road this morning; it's badly torn up, but I don't see any rattles (got a better look, and it is a big old rattler, with about 10 rattles). I've had cats that have an instinctual fear of snakes, and I hope Halo knows enough to keep his distance from a live snake.
There is a blizzard of wind-borne seed tufts out by the creek, so many that they settle into piles on the ground. I just discovered that they are seeds of a horrible thistle that I've been trying to eradicate from my property.
I've been finding little almond trees starting in the vegetable beds, and it's kind of hard for me to pull them up. I wish I had a place to plant them, in a perfect world I would have room for an almond orchard, as well as a vineyard.
