Cooling Down
Jun. 22nd, 2011 05:21 pmOur little heat wave is over. It did reach 103 yesterday, and 100 today, but this afternoon a west wind kicked in and began cooling us down.
The summer vegetables love this blazing heat, and I'm quickly eating up the lettuce, which does not love the heat. The first beans are almost ready to pick. The north lawn is turning yellow, in spite of my watering. It's mostly field grass, and is green in the winter, but goes dormant in summer. The solution is to eventually plant a different variety of grass.
I have hundreds of little green Meyer lemons starting on the tree, about the size of marbles. Meyer lemons are sweeter than conventional lemons, having been cross-bred with mandarin oranges.
