Today, I put up a shade structure for the Stewart avocado tree. The tips of the leaves facing southwest are turning brown, and my intuition tells me that it's the hot sun. The internet disagrees that is the cause, but we'll see. The Zutano avocado has beautiful leaves, now that it's shaded, and it grows in essentially the same conditions. The likely variable seems to be the heat of the afternoon sun.

I'm a semi-hoarder, so I built it for no cost. I cut some steel rebar to size for the frame, then attached some loose-weave curtain fabric. I'm not a true hoarder because I use my saved stuff constantly, and have no problem throwing out useless crap.

I also started rooting ten sprigs of lavender, using that rooting hormone. If all ten make it, I'll have too many, I really only need a couple for the front yard.
