Garden Update 09/11/11
Sep. 11th, 2011 11:12 amThere is a mouse in the squash bed again this year. I hope he limits himself to little nibbles. I'm at war with the gophers only because they are incredibly destructive.
I have a handle on the harvest now. Things have slowed to the point that they are manageable. Some of my yellow squash have a green aspect, and I think it's because they are cross-pollinating with someone else's zucchini. Soon, I'm going to take down the shade structures protecting the avocado trees. It feels like the hot weather is over, and soon, the challenge will be to keep the avocado trees protected from the frost.
I have three big outdoor jobs to do before winter: I have to fix and paint the picket fence, I have to lay about 40 feet of gas line underground, between the house and the shed, and lastly, I should lay a brick pathway between the house and the shed.
