Farm Report April 14
Apr. 14th, 2012 04:44 pmBirds are literally shitting on my poor plastic owl. I need to get stealthy and learn the time that they feed in the almond tree. I very rarely see birds out there, but they could be avoiding me. My air rifle should be here by Tuesday. It's a new design, with a nitrogen piston to store energy. It will throw a .22 caliber slug at 950 feet per second, which is right below the speed of sound. It's not a toy, and is perfect for taking small game, even coyotes and racoons.
The rain has been good for the garden, and now the weather should warm into the 70's. I've finished picking the winter broccoli, and the first planting of snow peas is bearing heavily.
The wild grass out by the road has been replaced, in spots, by purple clover. It's very pretty, and I mow it along with the grass. I have no idea where the seed came from, but it's interesting how the ecosytem changes from year to year.
