Ceramics Update
Jul. 19th, 2012 09:24 pmI fired some terra cotta cast figures this afternoon, past 1800F or cone 06. The kiln has cooled enough to open, and at first glance, it went well. I had good gas pressure, the burners and valves work well, and the exhaust hood did the job.

My pyrometer reads perhaps 100F too high, as the cones all melted into little piles of slag when the meter registered about 1725F. Some of the stuff on the bottom, closer to the burners, fired to a lighter, browner color, and has scorch marks, but that is authentic and adds character.
