Mechanical Update
Jul. 31st, 2012 02:19 pmI just fixed a pretty arcane slip pump, taking it apart and clearing the crap inside. I managed to find a replacement rubber coupler and a similar gasket that could be adapted. One weird thing is that the round cover is attached by eight screws, and the spacing looks equal, but it's not. There was only one way the cover fitted. When I was googling for parts I found the entire assembly for sale, at $500.
It spins now, when you hit the switch, but tomorrow, I'm going to fit it into the pouring table, hook up all the hoses, and test it with water.
I want to quickly get to the point where I can mix a large volume of slip and pump it into molds, for high volume production.

The pump works fine, at least when I pump water. I discovered that the pouring table tank needs a new gasket to seal the pump inlet, but that should be available at Ace Hardware. The next step is to mix another batch of slip with the new chemicals and see if I can get the right consistancy.
