We had an especially good walk this morning. The dogs did a role reversal and Halo ran in the nearly empty canal, and Pogi stayed with me. They are both good off leash and respond to voice and hand commands. Both are herding dogs and  they thrive on order and discipline. You couldn't have two big male dogs without it.

I made a medium butternut squash into two pies, and even though I didn't have all the right spices, and cooked them in a double boiler, they turned out well.

As I build my crude small-caliber gun, I'm reading up on the guys that build more sophisticated weapons. The most interesting are the .50 caliber rifles. These guys have machine shops with metal lathes and can cut rifling inside of the barrels, and turn out a very nice result. The .50 caliber rifles are essentially small cannons with sniper scopes, with extreme ranges and penetrating power. The insurgents in Syria could use such rifles against armored vehicles.
