Garden Update February 1
Feb. 1st, 2013 06:49 amI did plant an additional three rows of snowpeas and tilled the south bed for yellow onions. I'm slowly hardening off the yellow onions in preparation for transplant. I started four little broccoli seeds found in a packet from last year, and they have exploded into growth. They surprised me in being so fecund.
I save and compost all the plant and kitchen waste, but things are not breaking down as quickly as I would like. I now have two great piles on the bare earth, in the most bio-active spot I know, but I struggle to gather enough compost. I keep them wet and even add nitrogen, but still the piles are cold. There is some trick to it that I don't know. When I find the time. I'll chip the tree trimmings and add them to the mix.
