Eurasian Collared Doves
Apr. 14th, 2014 12:50 pmI think I've identified my doves; one site even has their call recorded. This year, there is a breeding pair in every tall tree on the property. They're an invasive species, originally escaping from a pet store in Bermuda, and quickly spreading across North America. They always live near human habitation, and are quite bold.
Just now, one was taking a shower under a lawn sprinkler, and they also rely on the dog's water for their own. I like them, and a few years ago even protected the first breeding pair from the crows. They're always here, and it's like keeping pet birds without cages.
