Farm Report For May 15
May. 15th, 2014 01:15 pmWe're in a mini-heat wave, with temps later today to reach 100F. Everything is well watered, with the tender tomato and eggplant seedlings moved indoors during the hottest hours.
I found some years-old butternut squash seeds and managed to sprout five. Last years plants were cross bred, and developed as a strange hybrid, so I didn't save seeds, but. These old seeds should produce pure butternut squash.
I have a number of volunteer tomato and squash plants sprouting by the compost pile. I've pulled the ones in the garden beds, but I'll let these compost pile plants grow and see how they progress.
I have a little more weeding to do, and I should trim the almond tree, remove the pea plants (saving the dry peas), and plant a long row of vine beans. But not today, it's too hot!
Everyone is complaining about LJ changes, but I've always used the basic templates and now it's not much different.
