Farm Report For June 16
Jun. 16th, 2014 04:34 pmI put together a drip irrigation system for the tomatoes and eggplant in the main bed, and added to the system in the south bed. The last eggplant will be transplanted into the south bed tomorrow.
The onions and garlic won't get anymore water. They have entered the endgame, where the bulbs close up and prepare for storage. The last major planting, once the onions are harvested, will be summer squash.
All vegetables are doing well; the third course of beans are just emerging from the soil. Some of the butternut squash is big enough to eat. I'm smashing fleas beetles that are on the eggplant, and I seem to be able to hold them in check. I can always spray again if they get bad, but I've noticed praying mantis in the garden and they eat lots of bugs. My oregano is flowering, and the honey bees seem to love it. I picked some a few weeks ago, so I have a store of dry oregano for cooking.
