Farm Report For November 2
Nov. 2nd, 2014 09:24 amI still have a lot of green tomatoes, but it's probably six weeks before first frost.
Many lemons are close to completely ripe, so soon I'll need to start making marmalade.
I'm freeze drying onions, and I should find a spot to plant some of the smaller bulbs that are sprouting.
This year, I've had a good crop of onions, Roma tomatoes, butternut squash, eggplant. Next year I won't even plant yellow squash or Brandywine tomatoes, which didn't do well.
I need to pick dried beans and still save eggplant and roma tomato seeds for next year. I've discovered that you should ferment the eggplant seeds, and that may solve the viability problem I had with eggplant seeds this year.
I've been reading about exactly how to prune the Japanese plum trees. It's done in the cold weather, and it should eventually lead to more plums. It's a pretty severe operation, but both trees seem healthy, and the Elephant Heart tree has overcome the aphid problem.
