More Survivalist Planning
Sep. 3rd, 2015 09:20 pmFrom what I've read, a big solar storm could create havoc with the electrical grid, and it might us take months to recover. No electricity, probably no natural gas, cars wouldn't run, stores would quickly be out of food. Surviving the social chaos, especially in heavily populated areas would be a challenge. The last really bad storm was in about 1850, but we've had a few close calls since then.
I have two little solar panels that will charge a 12V battery. In case of an extended power outage, I can power a little shortwave radio, a cb radio, a few led lights, charge my phone and tablet. I'm not sure how important the tablet would be, because there would be no Wi-Fi signal.
All this electronic stuff that I might want in the aftermath would have to be carefully shielded during the storm, but there are online guides to how to do that.
