Cider House Sunday
Oct. 25th, 2015 11:09 amI siphoned the cider into the secondary, after five days in the primary fermenter. It's bubbling along happily, still somewhat sweet and cloudy.
I want to mow today, and that entails baiting and filling Pogi's newest gopher excavation in the lawn. On walks, he loves nosing through squirrel villages, digging some, and even sticking his entire head in the burrow and making loud snuffing noises.
I think Pogi ate a squirrel this morning. It was dead in the road, completely flat and desiccated, like squirrel jerky. He picked it up before I noticed, and ate it in about six bites.
Halo will chase squirrels out in the open, but doesn't care to dig. I think he knows they're almost impossible to catch that way.
I built a fire outside and roasted some beef. It's so good, and I cooked enough for at least two more dinners. I'm glad I didn't build an elaborate, permanent fire ring out there, because I only have been building fires about once a month to cook on. It's nice to do it, however, and there's something hypnotic and primal about an open wood fire.
