The hunting dog flushed a coyote from the creek bed. It went to the opposite bank and stood and yelped (they don't bark) at me and the dogs. Usually they scurry away, but it could have a litter of pups down there. Halo went into his guarding mode, which is probably instinctual in a herding dog. He got quiet and intent, and stayed between me and the coyote. Dinah got a good look, and she's now clear that a coyote is not just another dog.
