Coyotes and Pitbull Encounter
Feb. 7th, 2018 09:04 amWe ran into a couple of coyotes in our walking "territory" this morning. I saw them first, and Halo and Dinah immediately understood when I announced it. The coyotes scuttled away quickly, but we walked to where they had been, and continued a little further, to the edge of of walk territory. Halo then methodically ripped up a large section in the wet ground with his back legs, right there at the edge. Halo has really strong instincts, especially concerning coyotes.
On the way back home, one of those huge pitbulls was loose, and came at us aggressively. As it was advancing across the road, we stopped and faced it. I yelled "Hey, Hey, Hey" and it stopped about six feet away, and let us walk on. Again my dogs acted correctly, and didn't provoke a fight, but were clearly ready to defend.
I think Dinah is an asset in a bad dog neighborhood like this. She's pretty strong and capable. She's the younger, slightly smaller dog in the picture, here with my brother's dog. You can see Halo's hind end in the picture. He's a shaggy grey Australian Shepherd, about 75 lbs.
