robbyI just went through the house and replaced a bunch of burned out compact fluorescent bulbs. They don't seem to last, give out poor light, are more expensive, and now I'm supposed to recycle them because they contain mercury. We're de-evolving when we switch from a better technology (incandescent) to a poor substitute that is hazardous.
It's like the MTBE that was put in gasoline. MTBE was a hazardous waste that used to be a problem for oil refineries, until environmental gurus mandated that it be added to gasoline. Because it was added to gasoline, significant amount of the ground water in the US is now poisoned with MTBE, and nobody says a thing.
