I've been walking that Lincoln highway, I thought you knowed,
I've been hittin' that 66, way down the road
Heavy load and a worried mind, lookin' for a woman that's hard to find,
I've been hittin' some hard travelin', lord
___Woody Guthrie

This song was in "Bound For Glory", a Woody Guthrie biopic from the 70's. Not a bad movie. I'm just a stone's throw from the old Lincoln Highway. Later they re-routed it, but them days was the heyday of this little census-designated hamlet.

I also recently saw the 1990's "Multiplicity" with Michael Keaton and Andie MacDowell. A harried guy secretly clones himself as a solution to a busy life. He starts with one, who is better than he is at his job. He makes a second, who turns out to be more sensitive and nurturing, and helps his wife with cooking and the kids. The first clone then copies himself because the two clones want a third to keep up the apartment over the garage (where they're all secretly living). Big mistake, because the copy of a copy is defective.

All three clones eventually break Michael Keaton's rule #1, which is not to fuck his wife, Andie MacDowell. The sensitive one even cries the first time he does. It's a funny movie.

In other news, my furnace conked out, but after a few days I finally figured out the problem. After I downloaded the service manual, I realized I don't have the tools and experience to test igniters and pressure switches and such. But it was simply the crappy, worn out rechargeable batteries I use in the thermostat. I need to get some top end alkaline batteries and not use my marginal, sketchy. recharged batteries in critical systems.

It's nice to have a 50,000 BTU gas furnace back.
