I finally talked to the local clinic, and they gave me an appointment on Tuesday.

The okra is about done producing, so I have peppers, tomatoes and squash in the ground. I plan to pick and fertilize the tomatoes.

I fixed an electric outlet where I plan to set up the hot tub.

All the animals are fine.

The weather is cooler, with highs in the low 90's.

Tomorrow, I need to get gas, a haircut, go to the bank and get groceries.

I haven't unwound the AliExpress scam yet, but the seller blames Fedex for shipping a different item. Promises me a refund.

I back-ordered a similar hot tub from Amazon. It is $200 more and slightly smaller, but being only 67" in diameter it will fit neatly on my covered porch. The porch is a concrete slab, with an electric socket. So it's actually better.

Good Eats

I had chuck roast, grilled chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and fried okra and cornmeal.

The okra was fresh from the garden, and fried in lard. Lard is a replacement for canola oil, which may be causing inflammation. Everything tastes better with lard, as well. My joints will feel better tomorrow, for have eaten okra.

I've been buying boneless chicken breasts when they are on sale, and freezing them individually. It's really easy to quickly grill one with my George Foreman grill.

Hot Tub

I ordered one of these on AliExpress for only $280 delivered. Pretty large, 77" in diameter, and they are well rated. I plan to set it up on the front patio, and soak my aching joints regularly.

In related news, I switched from canola oil to lard, and hope that reduces my inflammation and joint pain.?

Editor's note: Our hero purchased this on AliExpress, and probably has been scammed. They are shipping a tiny unknown box to him, instead of the hot tub. They won't answer messaging. Our hero plans on refusing delivery of any substitute package and will dispute any charges on his credit card.

My knees have been bothering me, and it might be the beer. I usually don't drink at all, but I've had one beer a night, for  3 nights in a row. It may be causing inflammation?  I need to have my knees looked at. It probably is ligament damage and arthritis.

I fertilized the squash and started the drip irrigation. It's spreading nicely and forming flowers.

Halo got hungry last night about 10 PM and ate dog chow and much of the cat food. This morning he's walking around and ate a moderately good breakfast.

It's funny but the cats all like the dogs. Cats are in competition with other cats, but my dogs are nice to cats. The blind orange cat can lay in the middle of the floor, and the dogs will carefully walk around him..When he encounters a dog, he will slow down and brush against the dog, and hope the dog sniffs him.

Halo ate breakfast this morning, and went in and out a few times by himself.

We are supposed to get .04 inches of rain today from Hilary. I plan to climb up on the roof, tomorrow AM, while it's cool, and look for a roof leak. There is probably one little spot that need fixing, but the trick is to find it.

My second planting of onions is ready to harvest, but because it was planted late, the onions are small.

I'll dry and eat them anyway, and save a few bulbs to grow next year for 2025 seed.

He seemed fine until about 1PM, and vomited about 4 PM. He hasn't eaten at all or moved much since. He lifted his head for a minute and it had that characteristic tilt. I gave him a dose of meclazine at 9PM.

Update: At 6:30 AM, he seems almost normal. I had to help him get up, but he's walking and drinking water.

They are apparently somewhat rare and valuable. I have a breeding pair that will produce them!  A black female and a cream colored male.

Kitten

I'm having trouble using Dreamwidth,  embedding photos, or even posting more than one photo link. I have more and better pictures of all the kittens,  but can't waste hours figuring out what is wrong with Dreamwidth.

One kitten is a tortoise shell, I think?

There is a black tuxedo, a grey tuxedo (with faint tabby stripes), and a little grey tabby

I picked more tomatoes, and fertilized with the last of my no-nitrogen fertilizer. The tomato plants may have suffered a little during this week's hot spell. Cooler weather is here with perhaps some rain, Sunday and Monday, from tropical storm Hilary.

So far, I've had good luck with my crops. My freezer is almost completely full of broccoli and okra. I have plenty of onions and garlic. Tomorrow, I pick another batch of tomatoes. My new planting of squash is growing quickly.

The one exception are peppers. A gopher ate two of my plants, so I moved the rest to an available, but not optimum spot in the main bed. They're flowering now.

This morning, I picked okra, which thrives in this weather. I watered, weeded and picked, but finished with all the outside work and came in about 10:15 AM. My little window a/c was on low all night, and kept the bedroom very comfortable.  I do it not just for me, but for Halo, who seems to need cooling.

Lots of humidity today, and a high of 98. I walked the dogs in a sprinkle that barely wet the street. This morning, I picked the first big batch of tomatoes, and got 3 gallons of rather large ones.

Halo has strong herding instincts, and I could tell he enjoyed supervising the cats this morning. He smelled all their rears, and tasted some of the food. They all like him, as he is gentle and quite shaggy.

In a perfect world, he would have a herd of sheep, but these cats will do.

The delta breeze kicked in about 8PM,  and the rest of the week will be fairly cool. I'm clearing out Dinah's bedroom, and will put mama cat and he kittens in there, and play with them every day.

I used the air conditioner last night, and can't remember how I did without it. Halo needs it too, as he gets older.

The dogs have been fed, and Halo is active tonight. He just watched me feed the orange cat, who is picky about his food. Dinah the dog ate a good dinner, and is going in and out. Popeye the cat is sleeping soundly. He got a dose of amoxcillin about 8 PM.  The pale yellow cat is out. Mama cat and her 4 kittens are shut in the bedroom. She comes out about 4X a day.

More squash seeds have sprouted, so I should have enough plants for a good crop. The second set of garlic plants are signalling that it's time to dig up them up. I will have a year's worth of dried bulbs soon, as well as garlic to plant next year. No ripe tomatoes yet.

A heat wave starts today to last through Monday. I'n watering right now.

Popeye the cat is eating well, and his eye is no longer oozing, but it's still closed. He took his medicine like a champ, and slept with Halo and me last night. He's outside now.

If I had a responsive vet, I would take him in. When I call my vet, there are no appointments available. I'm giving him about 80 mg of Amoxcylin once a day. I also clean the oozing from his closed eye.

I can only count on seeing Popeye once a day. He's eating pretty well, and is outdoors most of the time.

I put these little bands called "toe grips" on Halo's claws, and he's walking better, and gets up off the floor easier. They are an accomodation for old dogs with arthritis.

My fitness band was scheduled on August 1 to be bricked by Amazon, but I stopped connecting with the site, so it never got the message to stop functioning.
