I went through every cupboard and closet today, and threw out every useless thing I own.
It's a liberating experience, I am sort of a minimalist, and honestly think owning too much stuff is oppressive. I threw away repair manuals and auto parts for cars I no longer own, lots of paperback books, free AOL disks, bank statements and papers, accounting books from college, lots of broken and obsolete electronics, shoes that are worn out or uncomfortable. I ended up with a cubic yard of crap that cost $10 to dump.

I have tendencies to accumulate junk, but realize and resist the impulse, unlike people I won't mention. I didn't throw out any clothes, but I did, following the sound advice of my dear friend, the lovely Miss Joan Crawford, throw away all my wire clothes hangers.

It would have been more correct to sort out things that other people might have wanted, but I don't have the time or patience, and literally backed up a truck and swept through the house, room by room, and got rid of things. But don't cry for me, I still have two extra home computers, a hundred books, an extra cordless phone I have to test, a broken oscilloscope, three battery chargers, Spanish and Russian home study courses, and .69 caliber flintlock pistol.

I started chopping up a few of them to make little collages in letters I was writing.

I keep thinking of looking for a place that might be interested in grabbing them off my hands because it still seems like such a waste to throw all those old Starlog magazines out. There might be some weird sci-fi fanatic hunting around for back issues.

I haven't started to look yet though, but the magazines aren't exactly in a place that bothers me right now since they're nicely packed away in a drawer.

It's too bad you don't live nearby. I could have delivered all my paperback books to you. :)

But then that would mean more possessions for me to clean out after I'm done reading them. ;)

Ah, but then again, there are always used book places where they can be sold at there in the States, right?
