Just another tricky day for you

The Who concert was good. Pete Townsend is awesome, when he's windmilling his right arm and slamming out waves of power chords. The Who were once the loudest band ever, but the authorities now regulate sound levels at the Shoreline Amphitheater, so the audience doesn't get the full effect. I'm glad I did see The Who in the 70's when they smashed guitars and drum sets on stage, and played really loud.

I went with a high school buddy that I've know since we were 13. He was telling me details of concerts we had seen over the years, and I'm embarrassed to admit that I've forgotten a lot of the details. I'm not a burnout, and have never been excessive about drugs or drink, but he was bringing up gems from the past, that I have only hazy recollections of.

One explanation of my poor memory is that these things meant more to him than to me, but perhaps I should update my journal more often and archive it, so I'll have some memories left when I'm old.

So here's a few memories of the concert: Roger Daltrey had me help sing the chorus of "Who Are You", and before they did "The Kids Are Alright", Pete Townsend explained that he had written a lot of the songs with 3-part harmony because Keith Moon had loved the Beach Boys.

Wait a minute!!! You went on stage with Roger Daltry and sang "Who Are You"? or do you mean he held the mic at the audience and you sung into the mic? Either way that must have been soooo cool! Can you list more songs that they played?

Yes, held out the mike to the audience, not just to me. I was pretty close, knew the words and can sing loud.

Was it general admission, or did you have seats?

We had seats, but their was lawn seating, also. They played for two and a half hours, including the encore. They did Baba O'Reilly, some songs from "Tommy", and so many others. Pete Townsend brought his brother, Simon, along to sing the high harmonies, and Zack Starr was playing drums. I was very young when I first saw them in the Seventies, and now realize Keith Moon was the drummer I saw destroy his drum set on stage.

Wow!! You saw Keith Moon! He was my favorite one.

So was it sad without John? They must have did some kind of tribute, no? And hey, what happened to Kenney Jones? (Sorry, I'm way behind in my rock culture).

When I was a teenager, me and my sister would act out "Tommy" along with the record almost everyday. Our cousin didn't "get it".

They mentioned him throughout, and Roger Daltrey said it was hard to do the show without him. They didn't make it sappy, however. Didn't John Entwistle die with his rock-and-roll boots on? I'm more sad of the people that die without achieving anything.

It seems like everyone dies achieving something at least. You know I write an obituary column, and even the people who lead simple lives amaze me with all the clubs they belong to, all they do for churches, who was in the marines, who's a school teacher, who faught in World War II. It's amazing! That's probably why I like Live Journal so much, I'm fascinated with people's lives :)

What of the people that don't have a published obituary? Some people live lives of quiet desperation.

Well, yes, there are those that just want a death notice and no information at all. But I'm sure there has to be SOMETHING in everyone's life that is worth telling. Even when I think of the most boring people I've ever known, I can find some intrigue, even if it was just an interesting thought.
