Technology Update

I dropped my cell phone this morning, and the LCD screen blanked out for good. I checked out some cellular phones and calling plans, and just ordered the biggest and most bizarre combination ever. It's a Handspring VisorPhone and it connects to my Handspring Visor PDA. It is a very sophisticated cell phone that also lets me wirelessly connect to the web, and send and receive e-mail and do text messaging on the big PDA screen. It was free with a one year Cingular Wireless Plan. It is a GSM phone with 3 levels of digital encryption, including a SIM card that I can take out and pop into other phones to activate them. I must be a retard because the thought of a big, complex cell phone pleases me, and makes me laugh. I'll try to download some James Bond ringer sounds.

Ooo. Does that mean you'll be able to receive text messages from me if I tried to send one now?

I don't have my phone yet, I ordered it directly from Handspring, and I should have it on Monday or so.Text messaging is not widely used in the US. I've heard that text messaging in the US only works when both parties have the same cell carrier.

Drat. I hope I do find one that works though, so I can have my family message me from time to time when I'm there.

That's something to consider when you choose your cell carrier. I have friends that receive text messages from PI, and I'll ask about the details and let you know. I hope my new phone doesn't has extra microwave radiation. I can't afford any extra brain damage.

In some of the more conservative Muslim countries, a young man will quickly pass a cell phone to a interesting babe, and then call her with his second phone. Their society won't let him talk to her directly, but technology gives them an alternative.

I'm actually starting to imagine the damage that's causing. It's funny how these things never bothered me before. I just thought about it lately because I was starting to get frustrated at my bf because he doesn't want to get a cellphone. (Because of the radiation thing.)

From what I've learned Cingular phones can receive text messaging from overseas. My new number is 408-772-3329 if you want to try.
