We're having a wet, stormy weekend. The ocean swells are expected to reach 17 feet today and the extreme surfers will go crazy.
I live near the coast, but in the eighties, most surfers never ventured north of Santa Cruz. A few years ago, people realized that conditions a few miles off the San Mateo coast, just west of me, allow for some of the biggest and best surfing waves known to man. It's called Maverick's, and teams of guys will take jet skis and surfboards a few miles west of the beach and ride monster waves. Only the best and bravest surfers should go out here. It's best to use a buddy system, where the jet skier will watch over and retrieve the surfer after his wild ride.
