Uproar over "Assault Gun Ban" Repeal

The rifles sold presently are semiautomatic and functionally are the same as what is being called an assault gun. Neither can legally be fully automatic. There are a lot of dumb asses on LJ who know nothing about guns, and are pasting emotional diatribes copied from moveon.org that suggest that the expiration of this pointless "assault gun ban' means something.

Clinton put 100,000 more cops on the street and banned assault weapons. Crime went down. Bush removed funding for the cops and now wants to let the assault weapon ban run out too.

You don't need assault weapons to hunt or to protect your family, get real. Only terrorists and militia need assault weapons, period.

This "assault weapons" issue has now simply become another political football.

Assault weapons are essentually scary looking guns. They are not machine guns. Banning scary looking guns is as effective as killing a paper tiger.

So let's ban all guns other than hunting guns. Most people get injured with handguns, right?
