Why is it that AIDS has infected so many people in Africa? Is it some combination of a lack of AIDS awareness and poor medical care? I remember that in the eighties people predicted AIDS would ravage all segments in the US, but actually, hasn't it generally been confined to the high risk groups?
I've done a little preliminary internet research that calls the 100 million figure into question. The accepted definition of AIDS in Africa is a persistant fever and weight loss. Western researchers suggest that only half of the "AIDS" casualties in Africa are HIV+.
