Cool, Rainy Spring

We're having unusual weather out here, but it's good for my lettuce which is coming up three days early. One bean bush is developing flowers, and the nopales has begun flowering, with big beautiful yellow blossoms. This morning's gopher survey turned up no fresh activity, and ants are swarming in one of the baited holes, which could spell the demise of at least one bad actor.
I'm going to tap in to the gas lines today and install a valve and then connect to my kiln manifold for testing.

My gas connection went well, and now I have a gas valve outside near the shed where the kiln will be installed. I was nervous playing with natural gas lines, but I had a clear plan, the right tools and the right fittings. Tomorrow, I need to buy a 1/2" F pipe union and test the gas pressure and two burners.

My onions are popping up this morning, 5/29, one day early. It was too late in the season to find the bulbs, so I bought seed for evergreen bunching onions, which are essentially scallions. They mature in 40-60 days and form small bulbs, but you can also eat the stems.
