The squash are beginning to blossom, and I'm planning for lots of squash and tomatoes. I've stopped handwatering and now use a combination of flooding and soaker hoses to deep water every few days. The onions are not prolific, but I think some bugs are eating them, as well as the purple lettuce. Oddly enough, mystery bugs (nocturnal earwigs?) seem to focus on the purple lettuce, but the other varieties are thriving. I built a big compost bin out of wooden pallets over by the well, and I'm going to lay the wood chips in areas of the front yard, leaving the shaded area behind the shed for second, smaller shed.
