Something has been gnawing on the squash, perhaps the cute bunnies that I see around at night. However, I've never found rabbit pellets out there, and while I have gone out a few times at night to check, but I've never happened upon the culprit.
On the critter upside, there are more lizards around the house, including one that now lives on and about the front porch. I don't use any insecticides, so my yard is bug and lizard friendly. I do use chemical fertilizer, but I've been composting like mad, and soon I'll heve plenty of natural fertilizer. At this point, there are five compost piles, and when the leaves start falling in earnest, I'll be ready to add them to the mix. I planted some cauliflower today.
Editors note: It may have been bad luck to mention the porch lizard, because a blue jay has just made off with him.
