I want to roto-till the garden tomorrow, and I have already managed to weed the planted section. The peppers are done with, I picked the last 5 the other day. We're getting night temps into the high to mid 30's but sunny warm days in the mid to upper 60's. The tomato plants are still producing, and even though the leaves are wilting, tomatoes are still ripening. I was hoping they would produce until mid November, and they are.

The dog is not completely healed yet. I noticed his incision was opening again on Wednesday, so I put the cone back on his head. He's gradually destroying this second cone collar, so I may have to buy a third. He's enrolled in obedience training now, starting the 23rd. I would like him to be more manageable by Christmas, and I'll try to learn the techniques and give him tough love, if necessary.

Some homeless evangelist has taken to living near the railroad bridge. Halo doesn't like him, and barks like crazy when he sees the guy, which is fine, because I don't want to listen to the guy's Jesus yammering. The guy is now blocking access to "his area" with logs and branches across the path, but Halo tells me the guy is still living out there somewhere in the brush.

You can see why people had dogs in less civilized times. Halo absolutely knows what's happening around him. I used to think he was barking at nothing, but I know better now. He's really too protective of me, but in a dangerous situation that would also be an asset.

Editor's Note: He broke the rototiller, and dug up what was left by hand. We'll soon see what sort of gardener he really is, without his modern equipment. Maybe he'll surprise us and repair the rototiller, but I'm not holding my breath.
