We've had warmer and wet weather and the winter garden is responding to the change. I see cauliflower sprouting now, and so far, the rows of onions in the sunnier areas are up, but nothing yet in the more shaded area. The gophers are becoming difficult again, but with some exploratory digging, I found the underground runway and baited it with poison. Sometimes one good baiting is enough. I recently noticed some weird "grass" starting over by a stand of fir trees. These are trees that I watered this summer and regularly fertilized with coffee grounds. The weird grass is actually hundreds of baby trees, so my attentions to these trees resulted in reproduction, probably the first time in years.
Halo likes the practice sessions for his new behaviors, he learns them really fast, and when we're done, he runs around the yard like a crazy dog. He doesn't care for balls or frisbees, but somehow when we practice all his new "tricks' it resonates with him as fun. I've read that Australian Shepherds are famous for learning complex behaviors.
