The Forest Is Screaming
Dec. 13th, 2010 11:29 amI just cut down the ugly Sycamore Maple tree. It came down quickly, but sort of haphazardly. None of the limbs fell where I expected, even though I watched an internet video on how to fell a tree. I didn't get hurt, or break anything, so all's well that ends well.
Actually, a eight foot tall trunk is still in place, and I only sawed all the limbs and branches off, mostly using a small chainsaw. I had to finesse the limbs that were overhanging the shed by cutting, in small steps, with a bow saw. The whole mass of limbs is now out by the road, to be chipped. I must borrow my neighbor's big chainsaw later, to cut down the trunk of the tree.
The tree had probably seeded twenty years ago from another ugly tree nearby, on a neighbor's property. It was shading the garden from the morning sun, and attracting strange soapberry beetles in massive quantities.
