We're Preparing For Hot Weather
Jun. 12th, 2011 06:11 amThe dog is digging two burrows in the yard. They are fairly elaborate, under bushes, and he's even trimming the lower branches of the bushes with his teeth. I think his instincts are telling him to get ready for hot weather, even though he's been spending most of his time indoors. I'm not going to interfere, because these burrows are not that obvious, (maybe his instinct is also to keep them hidden) and the battle I've picked is to keep him from tearing up the lawn.
I built a nice burlap covered frame to shade the Zutano avocado tree, but yesterday was a mild day, and the tree didn't need any shade. The leaves are developing larger and greener, but again, we'll have beastly sun and heat later this season, so I'm sure the shade structure will be useful then. Avocado trees, in the natural state, grow under a jungle canopy when they're young, and pop out into full sun as they mature.
