Happy Fifth Of July
Jul. 5th, 2011 03:35 pmThe booms and the gunfire made the dog crazy, and this morning, I found a spent bullet lodged in the fence. Right now, there is a brushfire about a half mile north. The police and fire department are on scene, and heavy equipment is cutting fire breaks. It's across the main road and the winds are blowing east, so I'm in no danger.
We're at the end of a 3 day heatwave, and the temps are above 100 at 3PM. The dog likes his ice cubes and mostly stays in the house with me. He was probably stuck in the heat, in his earlier life, because he now seems to really appreciates the chance to keep cool. We'll go out on little forays, during the heat of the day, but he's always ready to quickly come back inside and chill.
My deep watering and mulching have prepared the garden for the heat, so everything outside is doing fine, in spite of the heat.
