Summer Garden
Jul. 2nd, 2011 11:24 amThe summer squash is sprouting, and yesterday I picked my first tomato. I read somewhere that the famous chef, Alice Waters, said her best tasting tomato, ever, was an Early Girl grown with the minimum water, and that's what I'm now trying to do.
About four more tomatoes will be ripe by Sunday. The lemon tree is going through a second round of blossoming, I wish the avocado trees would follow suit. Honey bees are elite pollinators and only show up for the super good blossoms like lemon, lavender and squash flowers. There are always bumble bees and pseudo bees, and even flies that step in to pollinate the lesser blossoms.
