Hodge Podge
Jul. 22nd, 2011 03:32 pmThings are slow at work, so I stayed home today and wacked some wild weedy areas around the house. When it was time to tie up the tomatoes, it seemed too hot, so instead, I replaced some bad fence pickets, and then painted some extra pickets and porch posts for later.
It's just in the low 90's, and I think the triple-digit weather that was meant for us, has instead, gone east.
I'll pick my first jalapenos today and make some chili con carne. The new squash plants are growing like they were on steroids, and the eggplant (aubergines, for you fancy Europeans) are flowering, but I don't see any fruit yet. The tomatoes are beginning to bear heavily, and soon I'll need to start canning.
I haven't figured out what lurks in that wild spot, so the dog can't run there anymore. There is a dead dog beyond that spot, but I believe that dog was hit on the road and crawled a ways before he died. The dog has no collar or tags, and was probably a thrown-away pet. I wish the buzzards would come to clean him up.
