Farm Update
Nov. 12th, 2011 03:19 pmI picked the last seven Brandywine tomatoes, and added them to my green tomato collection on the kitchen table. Something, probably slugs, is eating the young broccoli sprouts, so tomorrow, it's out to buy more seed and snail bait. The avocado cold frames are finished, and with all this work, I'd better get some avocados next year.
The wild chickens are wandering everywhere, and when I let my dogs out, the chickens tend to lure the dogs towards the busy street. Some mornings, they'll be 3 or 4 dead birds in the road. They're a nuisance and a hazard, and I feel like catching and keeping a few hens for eggs, and killing the rest.
Editors note: Our hero threw rocks at the chickens, and managed to drive them away without using deadly force. A skipping rock accidentally hit a passing minivan, but it was only a glancing blow to a lower body panel, and no real harm was done.
