I re-planted broccoli today, two weeks later. I was finding the broccoli stalks from first planting , minus the leafy heads. Slug bait has been applied liberally. If it freezes soon, this little setback could mean starvation in the springtime. Not really, but it would be serious in more primitive times.

I didn't get the tomato yield I wanted, either. I didn't realize the Early Girl variety won't produce well into the fall. It's fine to plant one or two Early Girls, but you don't want to rely on them for serious canning.

I should till the third bed today, and get it ready for planting.

I finished the tilling and worked in the final three loads of manure. I'm going to let it percolate tonight, till it once more tomorrow, and then sow yellow onion sets and red onion seed. This will conclude my 2011 winter planting.
